Forget Coakley: Dem Arrogance of Power Lost Massachusetts

I hope this fine Massachusetts evening that President Obama, other DC Democrats and Martha Coakley have had one major teachable moment: Arrogance of Power corrupts and kills campaigns.

For Obama some of the lessons should be:

• Don’t assume or pre-judge: In this instance, the Cambridge or any other local law enforcement agency.
• Don’t lecture – especially in the heat of a disagreement or incident, e.g. the lecture to America on the so-called failed history of white law enforcement personnel in dealing with blacks.
• Don’t send in your storm troopers from all over the US to get out a local vote in a local election – even if it has national import. There is no escaping the look and feel of an outsider coming at you – especially a slick one with all the latest info on how to get to the polls at his/her fingertips.  It all smacks of intervention.
• Don’t forget that a seemingly small incident can carry a lot of national weight when it involves the President.

Other DC denizens sharing in the blame for tonight’s loss would be Dame Nancy Pelosi who generally speaks ex-cathedra rather than discuss anything with anyone and then, behind closed doors. She does not understand that America is a dictator-free zone. Ditto Harry Reid. The arrogant wheeling and dealing in Congress generally has been blatant and bothersome to the American people.[CNN – Larry King Live discussion 1/19/2010].

But in Massachusetts tonight, Mrs. Coakley has learned the greatest political lesson:  Don’t assume that you will win and, if behind, don’t assume that the President or even God himself can be a game-changer in  your own backyard.
