We Have Helped Empower The Muslim Brotherhood

Posted on February 1, 2011

Here is an article in the Jerusalem Post that seems to put the Muslim Brotherhood in some kind of special space reserved for movers and shakers.  In doing this, we are elevating the group way beyond the place they hold in the minds of many in Egypt.

Countless Egyptians interviewed have dismissed them as a fringe group.  They are not a large number but are well organized.  Make no mistake, they are a totalitarian and dictatorial as that which is being run out of town on a rail this evening.  Think about it. Must we fortune tellers believe the handwriting is on the wall, that the cock has crowed or that the Rubicon has been crossed?  We are scaring ourselves silly again and that often is called propaganda and it is being done now on all sides.  Even in my beloved Jerusalem Post.

Muslim Brotherhood: ‘Prepare Egyptians for war with Israel’

A leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt told the Arabic-language Iranian news network Al-Alam on Monday that he would like to see the Egyptian people prepare for war against Israel, according to the Hebrew-language business newspaper Calcalist.

Muhammad Ghannem reportedly told Al- Alam that the Suez Canal should be closed immediately, and that the flow of gas from Egypt to Israel should cease “in order to bring about the downfall of the Mubarak regime.” He added that “the people should be prepared for war against Israel,” saying the world should understand that “the Egyptian people are prepared for anything to get rid of this regime.”

Ghannem praised Egyptian soldiers deployed by President Hosni Mubarak to Egyptian cities, saying they “would not kill their brothers.” He added that Washington was forced to abandon plans to help Mubarak stay in power after “seeing millions head for the streets.”

The millions in the street did not really change Mubarak’s mind nor Obama’s.  Obama had already moved away from Mubarak because of his dangerous out-of-step-with-reality policies and actions over the time of  his administration.  It was well known Mubarak had terminal cancer and had nothing to lose – unlike his countrymen.  Few would leave their 82-year old terminal father or grandfather in charge of anything.  The world’s family have just had a familiarly difficult time putting the old man in a home “out of town.” for his own good and the happiness of the next generations.
