Surprise. We’re talking about 2009; we’re talking about the United States of America. Dinner last weekend with clear thinking Conservative friends of above average intelligence (he was a scientist who helped put a man on the Moon) was instructive. I have never seen this couple so agitated. “This will be the fastest move to take a country Communist in history” the husband exclaimed. And he should know. He grew up in war torn Norwaym during WWII0.. All kidding aside, Tina Fey, he could see the Soviets and what they were about in their aggrandizement scheme for Eastern Europe.
Obama made it clear that he and his “people” would win and that they would “hit the ground running” with their plans to turn the country around from the devastation of the Bush years. During the campaign, he and his people like Rahm Emanuel who came out of the Chicago political milieu, strategized the Obama Administration policies. With an internet savvy operation and acute handling of the media, it was no wonder that when Obama’s leftist connections became evident, he and his people were able to convince voters that it was ridiculous to insist that bonds existed. They managed the message so that an attack on Rev. Jeremiah Wright would be seen as “racist” (shades of Gates to come) and calling out his connection with former Weatherman, William Ayers, would be seen as stone age thinking.
Obama swept into the Presidency and threw a lot of money around – “stimulus money” as freely as had his predecessor and as unable to account for where it had all gone. Then he turned his sights on those industries that had failed and/or that needed this money and virtually took them over. Imagine a President in control of our financial sector and our automotive industry. General Motors – that company about which we used to say ” as General Motors goes; so goes the nation” had gone governmental. And now having seemingly put out these fires – before the citizenry could digest what had happened – he and his men stormed into the health care arena. But something happened along the way to a government takeover of the health care insurance industry: the people woke up. Those “nutty” Conservatives who had talked about such inscrutable things like the “Cloward-Priven” theory of toppling countries (for a definition see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloward-Piven_Strategy) seemed not so “nutty.”
When people heard the word “public” in connection with health care their ears burned. They became vocal. Their representatives took note – especially the “blue” Democrats. The Obama Health Care Reform Express was slowing because citizens were blocking the tracks.
Then the people saw that delay meant learning more about what was really in the various versions of health care legislation in the House and Senate. They learned that many of their representatives had not read it all that they should have in the bills and they saw the heavy hand of the White House pushing the public health care option. It is hard to remember a time when the average citizen spent time actually reading the text and not extracts of proposed legislation for themselves. For the first time in his Administration, an important piece of Obama’s plan for a government takeover was exposed – his timetable was dealt a heavy blow. Speed had been the means by which he would implement his full plan
In the midst of all of this, jobless figures were not encouraging and the specter of thousands of Americans having expended their unemployment benefits has come into focus. Is the stage set for anger and frustration to hit the streets? Clearly the stimulus package did not work to create the needed jobs. Or was this the plan?
- Stage one, get control of key elements of the economy;
- Stage two make an ineffective attempt to put people back to work;
- Stage three gain control of banking, finance and a key sector in production – the auto industry.
- Stage four – the frustrated, angry, homeless and insecure unemployed will help push through universal health care. States devoid of taxes from taxation to pay for unemployment insurance will join in.
Now Cloven-Priven is fully in gear.
The self-serving socialists in the White House have been increasingly caught up in their own web. The plan to further socialize the country has been temporarily halted. The next area of government takeover – education – has been delayed as well. The opening volley of education reform- the address to students from the President – has failed. This move seemed innocent enough but wiser souls saw through this.
By now the President must be painfully aware of the simple nature of his situation: actions speak louder than words. We will get more of them at yet another state of the union speech (the second this year) this Thursday. But the charm factor has worn thin. His ability to control events has been dealt a serious blow. He had delegated health care legislation matters to Congress and they had failed. Now, Barack and all of the people who protect his back and push agenda are working overtime this weekend to draft their own bill for Congress and the Citizens to consider. So what was August all about? One could guess it was an exercise in civics that has helped stir the great American “silent majority.” This was hardly in the White House plan.
But don’t count Obama out just yet. He longs to get this country to that point where he can without conscience forge even closer ties with the leaders of Venezuela, Russia, and Iran. Communist and Muslim nations have one thing in common: control of the people. But Obama has, in fact, lost a significant amount of control over the party message and the implementation of his policies. Another address to Congress in under a year will either save or destroy him. We are at the tipping point.
At this writing, it seems that those who have defended the President with “give him time, he’s only been in office a few months” have stopped singing this song. They have begun to see that 8 months in it is possible to see a pattern forming. That old song: “as General Motors goes; so goes the nation” is once again at the top of the charts. General Motors is run by the government.
