TOILET PAPER DIPLOMACY

Posted on August 16, 2009

Sunday, August 16, Fareed Zakaria reported the unimaginable on his hour long CNN show on foreign relations, GPS, :  Cuba will be out of toiled paper until the end of the year when a shipment is expected. The government explained it was the result of the global economic downturn. Withal, Raoul Castro determinedly exclaimed that regardless of the  hardships (agricultural production is low and other commodities are at a premium) the island nation will never revert to capitalism.

Zakaria pointed out that while capitalism has its faults, communism is famous for the far more dire economic consequences of its political apparatus.

My question is: do we need to appoint a Czar for international toilet paper distribution?  It appears that we do unless we are prepared for the current hurricane season to waft unpleasant odors from Cuba to our shores – and that’s the bottom line.
